Wind event ahead?

There's some chatter on both the Pocatello and Missoula NWS Forecast Discussions this afternoon about some upcoming windy conditions. As of 4 pm today, Google's wind map shows the general wind direction to be out of the WNW, trending possibly to NW.  The current pressure map shows the flock of little low pressure systems forecast to head into Idaho by mid-week.

Missoula NWS says, "A low pressure system will approach the region from Canada tomorrow.
This will lead to increased winds with continued warm and dry conditions, especially across southwest and west central Montana."

(Note that Missoula is officially in charge of forecasting for Lemhi County, Idaho. Pocatello tends to focus more on the Snake River Plain and Eastern Highlands.  A blend of Missoula, Pocatello and Boise Forecast Discussions often presents the best perspective about impending weather in the Central Mountains.

Pocatello NWS says, "UPPER TROF  CONTINUES TO APPROACH FROM NORTHWEST TUESDAY AND WILL LIKELY SEE SOME WIND INCREASE IN THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS SPREADING SOUTH WEDNESDAY AS THE COLD FRONT ADVANCES.

Boise NWS says, "A SHORTWAVE TROUGH SWINGS DOWN FROM  WESTERN CANADA INTO THE IDAHO PANHANDLE AND MONTANA ON TUESDAY NIGHT.  MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FEATURE WILL MISS US TO THE NORTH AND EAST  BUT IT WILL DRAG A DRY COLD FRONT OVER THE AREA BRINGING IN STRONGER  NORTHWEST WINDS BY TUESDAY NIGHT.

(NOTE that many NWS Offices still type in CAPITAL LETTERS.  This is a throwback to the days of the teletype.  Missoula has moved forward and uses normal capitalization.  Hopefully, someday, Pocatello and Boise will join the 21sty Century as well.)
